Every second student aspiring to be a science or tech graduate wants to study at IIT Delhi. This institute is not just a dream but a feeling for many. However, only a few get the chance to live this dream. To support these dreams, IIT Delhi every year offers scholarships to deserving students.
Funding opportunities such as scholarships and grants can be crucial in a student’s life. It can significantly improve and benefit academic life, which can gradually become a successful professional life. These scholarships not only encourage but also provide much-needed financial support. Keeping in line with this, IIT Delhi offers 115+ scholarships, out of which 17+ focus just on women. This blog would take you through the scholarships and other funding options provided by the institute that you can benefit from.

This merit-cum-means scholarship is offered to undergraduate students. It is specifically for you if you are pursuing engineering or technology. It is offered to 25% of the students whose annual family income is up to INR 4.50 LPA. Each month, INR 1000 is provided for the general/OBC/EWS community. Recipients of this scholarship are also exempt from paying the tuition fees. However, to renew this MCM scholarship, maintaining a minimum of 6.0 CGPA and SGPA is important.
Herein, the top 7% of students of the 4-year and 5-year programmes are awarded an amount of INR 2500 each semester. These merit prizes are certificates that are awarded till the final semester, i.e. 8th and 10th semesters, respectively.
IIT Delhi provides free studentship to 10% of students. This opportunity is based on the financial means of the applicants. It targets students who come from economically weaker sections. This waiver of fees depicts IIT Delhi’s dedication to inclusivity and equal opportunity.
SC and ST communities are given free messing facilities up to INR 250 and some monthly allowance. This is offered to only those whose annual parental income exceeds INR 4.5 LPA. This waiver of mess fees is to uplift the SC and ST communities. This is also to help them focus on the actual goal, which is education and personal growth.
Enjoy tuition fee exemption if you belong to any of the SC/ST/PwD communities. This scholarship, along with several other benefits, is offered, irrespective of your parent’s or guardian’s income.
There are several donor scholarships at the institute from which you can benefit. These are provided by alumni, individuals, trusts, and some other organisations. 1992 Batch Memorial Scholarship: 3 students of the BTech/Dual Degree programme whose family income is lowest in the INR 4.5 to 9 LPA range.
Endowment Merit Scholarships: 2 undergraduate/dual degree students (1 girl and 1 boy) of each department.
Jain Scholarship: 1st-year undergraduate students with annual family income not exceeding INR 3 LPA.
Mittal Renaissance Scholars: 3rd-year undergraduate students with a CGPA of at least 7.5.
SMR Stempowering Women Scholarship: A female student enrolled on an undergraduate B.Tech./Dual degree programme in Electrical Engineering. The parents’ combined annual income should be between INR 5 LPA and INR 9 LPA. Also, you must not benefit from any other scholarship or tuition fee waiver.
Winnie Sun Merit Cum Need-Based Scholarship: Undergraduate girl student with a family income of less than that of INR 5 LPA with min 70% in the 12th class.
CSM Scholarship: Must be enrolled into an undergraduate B.Tech./Dual degree programme in IIT Delhi. The parents’ combined annual income must be less than INR 9 LPA and normally be required to pay the full tuition fee [The income limit shall automatically change whenever there is a change in the limit in the future as notified by the Ministry of Education]. Moreover, you must not be a beneficiary of any other scholarship or tuition fee waiver.
Suman Gupta Scholarship: Must be enrolled into an undergraduate B.Tech./Dual degree program in Chemical Engineering. Also, the parent’s combined annual income should be less than or equal to INR 10 LPA. It would normally be required to pay the full tuition fee. [The income limit shall automatically change whenever there is a change in the limit in the future as notified by the Ministry of Education]. However, the IIT JEE rank for the first year should be between 1000 and 2000+ since no CGPA is available for the first year.
If you are pursuing a master’s in science or public policy at the institute, then you can benefit from the MCM scholarship. However, if you are pursuing a PhD or other postgraduate programmes, the institute offers financial assistance, which we have discussed below.
M.Sc. and MPP programme students can benefit from this scholarship. Under this scholarship, a total value of INR 1000 per month is sanctioned, along with the tuition fee waiver. MCM is offered to 25% of the students in any category with an annual family income of up to INR 4.5 LPA.
Several donor scholarships are also available if you are a postgraduate student at the institute from which you can benefit. These are provided by alumni, individuals, trusts, and some other organisations.
Under this scheme, full-time doctoral students would receive financial assistance for teaching or research assistantships. Financial aid is also provided for attending national and international conferences per the institute norms. The total amount in the first two years of registration is INR 37,000 per month, and for the next three years, INR 42,000 per month. However, a few conditions must be met to enjoy these financial benefits.
You must do academic duty for 8 hours per week (excluding research work) as a teaching assistant.
Must assist the faculties in developing the course content, taking tutorials, and grading.
Fellowship is extended for the fifth year, only on the basis and review of the work.
A minimum of 7.0 SGPA must be attained to renew this assistantship every semester.
Under this scheme, a teaching/research assistantship award provides financial assistance. If you are admitted on a full-time basis, then you can benefit from the scheme. INR 12,400 per month is awarded in exchange for providing 8 hours of assistance to the department/school/centre.
