Being the first open university in India which is located in Hyderabad, Telangana, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), formerly known as Andhra Pradesh Open University, is a government open university for distant learning. BRAOU, which was founded in 1982, has been accredited by the NAAC with a A grade and accepted by the UGC. Throughout the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, BRAOU is run by a network of 213 study centres, which includes 23 Regional Coordination Centres (RCCs). The open university provides access to large number of non-formal learners to the undergraduate programmes with courses designed innovatively as foundation courses, core courses and application oriented courses along with using multiple modes (print and electronic) for delivery of instruction.

The admissions process takes place in online mode. Fresh admission starts from the month of January of every year. Although the examination for PG and UG courses differs in many ways, here is the general structure of the exam at BROU:
Exam Duration: The year-end exam is of three hours
Maximum Marks: Maximum mark of year-end exams is 70 (for each subject)
Paper Details: Question paper has two sections
Projects: Project work carries 70 marks and viva-voce is of 30 marks
Other Details: If your subject includes practicals, there is different schedule for every subject
