The IFoS exam 2024 comprises three stages that include prelims, mains, and interview rounds. Prelims is a qualifying stage, which contains two objective-type papers.

IFoS prelims 2024 exam had a total of 180 questions from General Studies Paper I and General Studies CSAT Paper II. The mains exam of IFoS contains six descriptive papers, out of which General English and General Knowledge are two compulsory papers for all candidates, remaining four papers can be selected from the list of optional subjects offered by UPSC IFoS.

The total no. of questions in all six papers is 1400 and each question contains 1 mark. All the six papers of IFoS Mains are conducted in English only. 1 mark is awarded for each correct answer and 1/3rd is deducted for each wrong answer. The final result is issued based on the marks of the IFoS Mains exam and Personality Test Marks that hold the weightage of 300 marks in the final result.

UPSC shortlists candidates for Indian Forest Services based on their performance in all three stages (prelims, mains, interviews). The first stage is qualifying in nature and the final selection is made based on the total scores of combined mains and interview rounds. The Prelims exam contains two papers that have questions in MCQ format only. It has overall 180 questions. The mains exam contains six papers, which contain descriptive-type questions. The papers of General English and General Knowledge contain 300 questions each and the remaining four papers contain 200 questions each. The interview round holds a weightage of 300 marks, upon which the selection is made together with the mains’ exam performance.
Prelims results for IFoS 2024 have already been announced in PDF format, which has the roll numbers of candidates who qualified for the Mains exam. The results are declared separately for all three stages after the exam is conducted. Results generally arrive in PDF formats and candidates can access them on the official website with their login credentials. The final merit list for shortlisted candidates is published after the interview round.

According to guidelines from the Government of India, UPSC follows the reservation policy for the IFoS 2024 exam SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PwBD candidates. The estimated vacancies for UPSC IFoS 2024 are around 150. These vacancies are reserved for the candidates of different categories. The category-wise vacancies will be announced soon.

Following is the reservation percentage for the IFoS 2024 exam.

27% reservation is for OBC candaudtes.

Reservation for EWS candidates is 10%.

15% of vacancies are reserved for SC applicants.

7.5% reservation is given to ST candidates.

Candidates are advised to solve previous years' question papers in order to get an idea of the syllabus, an estimated no. of questions per topic, and the exam pattern. Solving PYPs not only familiarises you with exam patterns but also helps you apply your knowledge and practice effectively. This way candidates will focus more on important topics rather than going through everything which is not even essential regarding the IFoS syllabus.

Mock tests are an excellent way to practise what you have learnt in a given time, which significantly creates exam-like scenarios for candidates as they get limited time per question. Solving mock tests enhances writing speed, thinking ability, and accuracy, which is a great way to prepare for competitive exams that often have fewer timings and maximum questions. Aspiring candidates can access the free mock tests for IFoS 2024, which are given below.
