To mark the birth centenary of the great poet Rabindranath Tagore in 1962, Rabindra Bharati University was established. With the central thought of carrying forward his legacy, the university has established itself as a centre for higher education in arts, language, literature and social sciences. Gradually, as the demands of the students changed, the university ventured into the distance education sphere. In 2002, the Centre for Distance and Online Education was founded which was formerly referred to as the Directorate of Distance Education. Its jurisdiction expands to the entire state of West Bengal and specifically targets learners from remote areas. The Centre for Distance and Online Education (formerly known as DDE) appoints NET-qualified experienced faculty with a strong hold on the subject matter. The designated faculty has rich experience in their respective fields and has earned a PhD degree as well. Moreover, the faculty is known to mentor and guide students individually to provide them with the best learning platform.
Self-Study Learning Material:
The online SLM is available at the RBU DDE or CDOE website and students can also download the study material from the website once the admission is confirmed. Apart from this, the university organises seminars, workshops, and training programmes to offer a wider perspective on the subject.
Personal Contact Programme (PCP):
To provide counselling, guidance and other such assistance to students, PCP sessions are organised at respective study centres. In the theoretical paper, the PCP will be organised in a phased manner. On PCP day, 4-5 classes of one-hour duration are conducted. The schedule is shared on the official website accordingly.
