10 Innovative Teaching Methods That Can Revolutionise The Modern Classroom

“The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.” —Sydney J. Harris

The waves of change are crashing hard in the constantly shifting field of education, wiping off the accumulated dust of outdated methods of teaching and introducing an entirely fresh phase of innovative thinking.

Picture this, a classroom where students are actively involved in their own educational experience instead of simply being the consumers of knowledge.

Nowadays, students are involved with lively learning, where the dull repetitive lectures have been replaced by practical issues and activities that ignite their imaginations and intrigue their minds.

Teaching is considered the backbone of any institution. In India, this profession of imparting knowledge and training lakhs of students is considered the main driving force of education.

So, it is necessary to impart knowledge where the concepts are crystal clear and critical thinking and problem-solving are encouraged.

In this blog, We will talk about the top 10 Innovative teaching methods that teachers can inculcate in their teaching for better and fruitful results.

Let’s Go!

1. Flipped Classrooms

This is the most common teaching technique. Traditionally, teachers first explained the whole topic or concept to the students in the classroom. Then, they would go home, revise, and learn on their own.

However, in this method, students were asked to study the topic initially on their own and then come to the teachers for any sort of doubts, confusion, or answers.

This method is helpful in that students do not need to rely on teachers for study and can be more involved in their studies independently.

Other than this, a double revision could be done, and the concept would be clearer as it has been repeated two times now.

2. Tactile Learning

Tactile learning, also known as kinesthetic learning, is a method of learning that specifically focuses on the physical touch and hearing of an object in order to learn the concepts and theories associated with it.

This method of learning is very different from audio and visual learning. In this method, learners are supposed to get hands-on experience and try to learn primarily by themselves.

3. Project-Based Learning

This mode of learning involves learning while working on projects either alone or in groups. This will help you gain hands-on exposure to the related topic and enhance your teamwork and communication within the groups.

This learning method aims to enhance soft skills such as communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and decision-making.

4. Problem-Based Learning

Problem-based learning is more or less the same as project-based learning as in this method, also, you get insights into practical experiences and test your analytical as well as critical thinking skills.

The only difference between the two methods is that in one, you learn the concepts from the projects, whereas in the other, you learn by knowing and analysing the problems.

5. VAK Learning

VAK stands for Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic. This method of study is exclusively for all kinds of learners and suits their needs. It was introduced to ensure everyone is gaining knowledge, continuously learning, and evolving.

This method of learning is done in the following ways:

  • Visual: videos and presentations

  • Audio: Podcasts and Debates

  • Kinesthetic: Activities

6. Collaborative Learning

Collaborative learning is a vague term used to denote project or teamwork activities. This method helps improve skills such as teamwork, time management, delegation, collaboration, decision-making, and social skills.

With the help of collaborative learning, learners can develop self-awareness and work towards their betterment.

7. Game-Based Learning

As we all know, everyone’s attention span is only decreasing today. That’s where game-based learning comes in; it helps engage the learners.

In this method, teachers are supposed to create fun, engaging, and informative games for the students to deliver knowledge and enhance their learning experience faster and more effectively.

8. Independent Learning

In this method of learning, teachers are not responsible for teaching. Their only responsibility is to deliver the course material to the students and solve their queries as soon as it arrive.

Other than this, students are in charge of studying and understanding on their own. This helps students gain confidence in themselves and study promptly with better and more concrete concentration.

9. Adaptive Learning

In this teaching method, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are used to teach the students, meeting the customised demands of each learner and giving them a learning experience based on their personal requirements.

10. Competency-Based Learning

In this method of learning, students are not judged based on their marks and grades. Instead, they are judged based on how much competent each one of them is. Continuous assessment in the form of exams, and quizzes takes place to see if the student has grasped the concept well.

This promotes analysis and better understanding along with continuous revision amongst the students.

Wrapping Up

In today’s time, where everything is changing and evolving. The teaching methods are also taking turns. There are various ways in which education is delivered. It does not matter in which manner the education is delivered, what matters is students should learn and reach to new heights in their careers.
